Ajax in action 原代码properties.xml错误

在看Ajax   in   action的随书source,遇到了难题。   
  在第11张的source中有properties.xml文件，如下：

  <property   name="lib"   value="web-inf/lib"/>

  编译器抱错：the   markup   in   the   document   following   the   root   element   must   be   well-formed   
  我认为是xml格式错误，加上<properties>后说缺<target>,这好象就不对了，他是properties文件，而且我怎么加都不对。   
  在build.xml中是在project内用   &properties;   来调用该文件   
  以前都是用*.properties的方式来定义，所以实在没弄懂，导致在build的时候无法定位文档路径   
  还有在build.xml中引用properties.xml也抱错，说无法找到该文件。   
  这两个文件在同一目录下。   
  请赐教！
